Football fans have a reputation of going to extreme lengths to support their teams. But, even by their standards, planning travel for this year’s World Cup in Qatar has turned out to be an unprecedented adventure.

Flight rates that are two or three times more than usual, hotel rooms that can run into hundreds of dollars per night, and the prospect of making the UAE their base to make trips to-and-fro between the two countries for matches…
